The SRT protocol encoders and decoders fully meets the needs of customers to transmit high-standard-definition streams through public IP, which can greatly save the bandwidth cost of private networks. Achieving secure, stable, and fast transmission, which is an open source, free, and flexible application specification. Now KUNUOMAGIC’s most codecs support SRT protocal including NDI HX series, P series, S series, E series, G series, U series and more.
What is the SRT protocol?
SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) is an open source, free and flexible application specification. It is a network transmission technology that can transmit data streams in real time and accurately in a complex network environment. The SRT protocol allows direct establishment between a signal source and a target. Connectivity, in stark contrast to many existing video delivery systems that require a centralized server to collect signals from remote locations and redirect them to one or more destinations.
Applications of the SRT protocol
1. Point-to-point one-way transmission and video interaction
During the transmission of audio and video streams from the SRT source device (video encoder as shown below) to the SRT target device (video decoder as shown below), the SRT detects and adapts to the changing network state between the two devices in real time. Resist the bandwidth jitter caused by network congestion, and with its powerful error recovery mechanism, minimize the possibility of network packet loss. At the same time, the SRT can also perform AES encryption to ensure the information security of the data during transmission.
2, Point to multipoint transmission
By using the streaming media gateway, the video stream sent by one encoder can be distributed to multiple decoders, and the streaming media gateway is used as a central node. The video stream sent by the encoder is received first, and then copied and distributed to multiple decoders. Decoders for point-to-multipoint video transmission.
3, video streaming protocol conversion and distribution
With the media gateway device, it can realize the input and output of various video streaming protocols such as SRT, TS over UDP, RTMP PULL/PUSH, and copy, convert and distribute each video stream, which greatly increases the compatibility of the SRT system. Sexuality enables local TS over UDP and RTMP streams to be smoothly integrated into the SRT system, improving the flexibility of video forwarding.
SRT is a very popular open source low latency video transmission protocol. Using SRT reliable transmission technology, it can successfully realize high-definition video transmission and distribution between the common Internet environment and multiple places. SRT technology is widely used in the field of video streaming. Because SRT can reduce latency, eliminate central bottlenecks, and reduce network costs. SRT’s safe, stable, and fast transmission is the biggest advantage of SRT.

SRT allows direct connection between the source and target, in contrast to many existing video transmission systems that require a centralized server to collect signals from remote locations and redirect them to one or more Destinations. The central server-based architecture has a single point of failure that can also be a bottleneck during periods of high traffic. Transmitting signals through the hub also increases end-to-end signal transmission time and may double the cost of the bandwidth because two links need to be implemented: one from the source to the hub and the other from the center to the destination. By using a direct source-to-destination connection, SRT can reduce latency, eliminate central bottlenecks, and reduce network costs. As a multimedia player of the Video LAN Project, VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player. When you test the push-streaming effect of the SRT HD encoder, you can go for VLC software. This blog today will explain how VLC receives the SRT stream of KUNUOMAGIC HD Encoder.
